E.L. Cord Auto Technology Center Hosts SkillsUSA State Finals

ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø student Scotty Dobson placed fourth out of 20 competitors in the SkillsUSA maintenance and light repair state finals in April.
Nevada high school students competed today at ºÚÁÏÍø¹Ù꿉۪s E.L. Cord Automotive Technology
Center for the opportunity to become one of 6,500 state champions from across the
United States in 114 skilled and leadership events.
This week’s SkillsUSA state finals included an automotive maintenance and light repair
division, where students were tested on brakes, wheels, vehicle checkpoints, engines
and more. ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø Automotive Mechanics Instructors Alex Street and Sunshine Haupt hosted
the event with assistance from some of the college's industry partners.
Scotty Dobson, a second-semester ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø student, became the college's first representative
in the state finals in approximately 15 years. He finished fourth out of 20 competitors,
just missing a podium finish. Dobson said he plans to compete next year.
State champs advanced to the national finals in Atlanta in June.
